Suzie Imber
Professor Suzie Imber is a leading space physicist, high-altitude mountaineer, elite athlete and globally recognised science communicator. Professor of Planetary Science at the University of Leicester and former NASA research scientist, Suzie specialises in space weather and planetary magnetic fields, and is a co-Investigator on the BepiColombo spacecraft mission to Mercury, arriving in 2026.
Suzie first captured international attention when she won the BBC2 series Astronauts: Do You Have What It Takes?, triumphing in a gruelling astronaut selection process overseen by Commander Chris Hadfield. From centrifuge tests at 5g to underwater emergency simulations, she demonstrated the resilience, focus and mental agility required of future astronauts, earning a formal recommendation to apply to the European Space Agency’s astronaut programme.
At GX Summit 2026, Suzie will explore the latest space missions, the future of human spaceflight and why space weather matters more than ever in our hyper-connected world. She will also share the remarkable story of writing supercomputer code to identify previously unknown mountains in the High Andes and then travelling to climb them drawing powerful parallels between scientific exploration, risk, teamwork and leadership.
