Gamma announces Gerben Wijbenga as CEO of Central and Northern Europe, expanding his role to focus on the region’s growth opportunity.

Gamma Communications plc (“Gamma”), a leading technology-based provider of communication services across Europe, today announced that current CEO of the Benelux business will expand his responsibilities to cover the central and northern European region, bringing a wealth of growth experience to the DACH region.

The evolution comes as Achim Hager, Founder of HFO and a cornerstone in the German telecom landscape, retires. Founded in 1997, under Achim’s leadership, HFO became one of the leading SIP companies in Germany, offering both traditional voice products and evolving with next-generation IP-based solutions. His decision not to renew his contract in 2024 is the end of an era marked by 25 years of dedication, innovation, and community-building in the DACH region.

Joining Gamma in 2020 as CEO for the Benelux business, Gerben Wijbenga brought with him an extensive telecoms background of over 20 years, covering France, Germany, and Benelux. With prior roles at renowned companies such as KPN, Telefónica Deutschland, and Tele2, his significant track record in driving growth in these regions positions him perfectly to champion Gamma’s ambitious expansion across central and northern Europe.

Gerben Wijbenga, CEO of Gamma Central and Northern Europe commented: “Our German business has been built on long lasting and strong relationships, over multiple years, by my esteemed colleague Achim Hager and his team. I will be working hard to retain and grow these relationships together with the strong teams we have at Gamma Deutschland as we and our partners look to capitalise on the growth opportunity in the DACH region.”

Achim Hager, exiting German CEO commented, “I will be available to Gerben Wijbenga and the German team throughout this transition, and will help in every way possible to pick up on and continue all the great initiatives we have been building. I will remain as a co-owner and shareholder of Gamma for many years to come and will be happy to help ensure that we remain as successful as we have built together over the past 25 years.”

Gamma remains grateful to Achim for his years of service and looks forward with anticipation to the path ahead under Gerben’s leadership.
