Tom Chedham, Business Development Manager at Candio: My name’s Tom, I’m Business Development Manager at Candio. Candio is a software company purpose-built to help telecoms, IT, and managed print companies. We built a range of products that our partners rebrand and resell to their customers. Our products focus on two areas of their business. The first is helping them grow their monthly recurring revenue, and the second is increasing the value they provide to their customers, as these products aren’t traditionally what you’d sell at the moment.
Candio can help increase your monthly recurring revenue because all of our products are purpose-built for SMEs. They’re sub £10 per month and are designed to help your customers gain more value from you. Our most popular product is called SafeWeb. It helps them understand what sits within the dark web for them. The idea is that they’ll continually pay that subscription because they want to know what threats are coming towards their business.
Launching SafeWeb will help you increase cybersecurity leads into your business because what SafeWeb does is highlight what is currently wrong for the customer. Not that they’ve done anything wrong, but it exposes what’s been leaked onto the dark web for them. We’re looking for things like usernames, passwords, email addresses, and payment information. The report that SafeWeb provides will kind of scare the customer into taking cybersecurity seriously. SafeWeb is very much just dipping your toe into the water of cybersecurity. What our switched-on partners have done is use that information to contact their customers and then upsell additional cybersecurity products.
The challenges that face small and medium-sized businesses face about what products they need is really difficult because what partners seem to be doing is taking enterprise-level products and trying to fit them into the SME market, which isn’t the right thing to do. What I think we need to be doing, this is a personal opinion, not a Gamma or Candio opinion, is that we need to be taking consumer-led products like password managers, VPNs, dark web monitoring tools, and taking those to SME businesses. Usually, an SME business owner is somebody that’s already using these products and understands them. Trying to sell something really complex like endpoint protection and sell that to Barry the Butcher is just not going to happen. What we need to do is look at the smaller end of the market and the smaller end of the products and then introduce those into the SME world, but give them an enterprise-level feel, which is what we believe SafeWeb does.
The benefits of SafeWeb Plus… we launched SafeWeb Plus at the start of the year. It took us about 10 seconds to think of the name. The idea is that once we’ve highlighted what’s on the dark web, the customer can easily buy a product from us or the partner to help protect them further. The first feature that’s included, and probably the most popular feature, is phishing simulation. What phishing simulation is, on a monthly basis, the customer receives a phishing-type email. If anyone interacts with it, they are taken to a landing page that then offers training videos. You’ve probably seen things like this before, but what it does is teaches them what emails they should interact with and what emails they shouldn’t. The next feature is Incident Response. I call this 24/7 support for cyber needs. If a customer has got any problem, they can contact our Incident Response team, and we will help resolve the issue. We can’t always fix it, because one of the issues might be that they’ve accidentally paid 10 grand to the wrong bank account, but what we will do is provide legal and helpful advice on how to reclaim that 10 grand. We’ve got many examples of what we do, and we’ve highlighted the top five, so they’re really easy for customers to understand. The final thing we’ve added is Privacy Toolbox, which is 35+ documents we’ve created to help customers comply with GDPR guidelines, Cyber Essentials, any kind of policy like that, ISO 27001. These documents, they can simply put their name at the top, put their name at the bottom, and then that will allow them to comply with the latest legislation.
We can run a dark web scan on anybody’s domain as long as we know the domain, obviously. But what a lot of people get confused with is about whether this works for @gmail, @hotmail, BT Connect, those kind of email addresses. And it will do, 100%. We just scan the full email address rather than the domain, and the report returns the same information. But we can run a SafeWeb report on anybody’s domain. We just need the domain.
Gammaverse has been really beneficial. It’s great to see everyone in one room and be able to network with so many people. This industry is fantastic, everybody is friends and everyone gets along, even though they’re competitors. I think it’s really important that we talk about cybersecurity this year. It’s a huge, growing industry, and resellers need to get involved. Gamma is making it super simple for them to do that.
